Following the recent clash between BJP workers and West Bengal Police over BJP’s ‘Nabanno Chalo Abhiyaan’, a video started making rounds on social media with a claim that the West Bengal Police was throwing country made or ‘desi’ bombs at BJP workers.

We extracted keyframes of the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to a tweet by journalist Sreyashi Dey.
In her tweet, she explained that cops were using smoke bombs to disperse the crowd as barricades, that were set up to prevent forward march of protesters, were breached and stones were hurled at the Police.

“While reporting, first barricades were broken, then stones were hurled, police fired tear gas shells followed by water canon & batons used to disperse the crowd. A gun was seized from the location and crude bombs were also hurled, ” Sreyashi added.
Moreover, we also found a tweet by Howrah City Police clarifying that the police were throwing Tear Smoke Munitions in Howrah after barricades were breached.
