A post is being circulated on social media with a claim that UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson apologised and said that he is ‘sorry for what Britain did to India’ 74 years ago.
“I am sorry for what Britain did to India 74 years ago, so I want to apologize to Indians. Happy Independence Day to Incredible India, ” the post read.

NewsMobile fact checked the post and found the claim to be false.
We ran a search using the viral quote and found that it was originally tweeted by an unofficial, unverified Twitter handle (@BorisUKJohnson) which was created in July 2020.


“Prime Minister Of UK | Unofficial | FC ” the Twitter bio read.

We also found out the official, verified account of Boris Johnson which is @BorisJohnson, which was created in April 2015.
We also scanned through the official handle of Boris Johnson but did not find any similar tweets.
Moreover, a quote such as this would have made headlines but we did not find any media reports to support the claim.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that Boris Johnson made no such statement.
