Fact Check: Did AIMIM party member burn saffron flags in Uttar Pradesh? Here's the truth

A few pictures are doing rounds on social media with a claim that a few people from All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) were burning saffron flags in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim to be false.
The first thing we noticed that ‘Nepal Murdabad’ written on a white paper and pasted on the billboard.

We then ran a Reverse Image Search along with the keywords like ‘ Nepal’, ‘flag burn’, ‘ AIMIM’ and found that they were burning the flag of Nepal.
We came across a tweet by Pratapgarh Police dated June 17. The tweet, which was a reply to a similar post stated that Nepal’s flag was burnt by the members of the AIMIM party in protest after Nepal’s parliament passed the amendment to include Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura in their new political map.

They also posted a clarification video by one of the men who were burning the flag.

We then ran keyword search and found several videos on the same incident on YouTube.


Hence, from the above information, we can conclude that the picture in question is being shared with a false narrative and are misleading.
