A picture of a flooded road is doing the rounds on social media in which people can be seen passing through waist-high water. It is being claimed that the picture in question is from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi.

The caption read: “Varanasi Smart City- PM Modi’s constituency
** The total estimated cost of the Varanasi smart city proposal is Rs 2,520 crore, which will be spent on the rejuvenation of ghats, infrastructure and e-governance. For area development, there will be an estimated budget of Rs 1,659 crore and for pan-city solutions there is a budget of Rs 618 crore. As per guidelines, the duration of the Smart City Mission is five years, from 2015 to 2020.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture and found that the claim attached to the picture is false.
We cropped and put the picture through Reverse Image Search and found it in several news articles related to rains.
On digging further, we found the same picture on the website of Associated Press (AP).

According to the details on the website, the picture in question was taken in Allahabad (now knows as Prayagraj) on August 12, 2018.
In conclusion, the above information proves that the picture in question is NOT from PM Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi as claimed in the above post.
