JNUSU president head injury completely healed? Here's the truth behind this viral picture

A screengrab of an Indian news channel is making rounds on social media in which JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) President, Aishe Ghosh can be seen along with several other students. It has been claimed that Ghosh’s injury marks on her forehead vanished soon after she was beaten up when violence broke out in JNU campus on January 5th, 2020.

“All the 16 personalities stitches of Aishe Ghosh gone with no marks left. India is advancing,” text on the picture read.

“Indian medical has reached a new heights, skull hit with steel rod and 16 stitches Marks gone in within few days, it’s a new guniess record,” users on social media wrote in the caption with the above picture.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim attached with the picture to be misleading.
On closely analysing the ticker in the screenshot, we came to the conclusion that it is from the time when JNU students were protesting against fees hike and the administration had rolled back hike.

As it can be seen that the screengrab is of news channel TV9 Bharatvarsh, we did a search using relevant keywords such as ‘TV9 Bharatvarsh’, ‘JNU’, ‘Fee Hike’, ‘Aishe Ghosh’. We found the video from which the viral screenshot was extracted, on the official Twitter handle of TV9 Bharatvarsh dated November 19th, 2019.


At 2:29 mins of the above video, we can see the exact frame which was extracted and being shared with the misleading claim.

In conclusion, it is proved that the viral picture of Aishe Ghosh is from November 2019, while she was injured in the violence in JNU campus on January 05th, 2020. Hence, it is confirmed that the claim attached to the picture is false.
