Fact Checked: Javed Akhtar didn't say that he will leave the country if Modi wins

A quote attributed to poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar is going viral on social media.
” अगर मोदी फिर पीएम बन गए तो मई और शबाना आज़मी देश छोड़ देंगे ” the post read.
At the time of filing the report, the post had more than 2,000 shares.

FACT CHECK

When Newsmobile team checked the claim, we found it to be FAKE.
We did a Google search using ‘ Javed Akhtar’, ‘ Modi’, ‘PM’, ‘leave the country’ and did not find out any report to support the claim.

However, a PTI report published in The Times of India on May 2, 2019, said that Javed Akhtar doesn’t like Modi or Shah.
“I do not like Modi and his assistant Amit Shah,” he is quoted as saying.
But “he will leave the country if Modi becomes PM” is nowhere in the report.

Moreover, on May 11, 2019, Shabana Azmi took to Twitter to bust the similar claim that was being circulated in her name.
