Fact Check: This viral advisory on COVID-19 has not been issued by the health ministry

Amid the Coronavirus outbreak in India, a viral ‘Office Memorandum’ is being circulated with claims that the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has issued a clarification regarding the declaration of holidays in four states, namely Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Sikkim.


The circular news claimed that the Ministry was declaring a holiday. This vacation, they claimed, would be from the 14th March 2020 to 21st March 2020.

NewsMobile fact-checked the above circular and found it to be FAKE.

The Ministry of Health issued a clarification on Twitter and called the viral ‘official memorandum’ fake.


The PIB release mentions that it ”has NOT BEEN issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. Necessary action under extant law is being initiated.”
