After NDA won Bihar assembly elections dashing Tejashwi Yadav’s hope of becoming the Chief Minister, a message is being circulated on social media with a claim that Election Commission has ordered recounting in 25 assembly seats.
“Breaking news
चुनाव आयोग ने 25 सीटों पर दोबारा मतगणना कराने की सहमती दी तेज़ रफ़्तार तेजस्वी सरकार” the post claimed.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.
Firstly, we checked the official website of the Election Commission but did not find any such announcement or notice.
We then ran a keyword search and found a report by the Hindustan Times dated November 13, 2020, stating that the applications for recounting in Bihar were rejected by the Election Commission.

According to the report, ‘Bihar’s Chief electoral officer, H R Srinivas, said that all counting rules and guidelines were strictly followed in both the counting of ballots and EVM votes. Only authorised persons, returning officers, assistant returning officers/counting supervisor/s, were carrying mobile phones inside the halls.

The report also mentioned that a total of 11 constituencies had victory margin less than 1,000 votes and recounting applications were filed in six of these seats. However, plea for Hilsa constituency was accepted as the victory margin was only 12 votes and the number of rejected postal ballots was 182.
The same report was also published by the Indian Express.

However, reports by National Herald, Business Standard and India TV claimed that pleas of recounting for all 6 seats were rejected.

Moreover, we did not find any news report or information that would support the claim that recounting will take place in 25 Bihar assembly seats.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that viral social media post is false and misleading.
