0 153

A picture showing a group of people lying on the floor or sitting in a place that appears to be a public facility is being shared online with a claim that these are the daily wage and migrant workers who are stranded in Gujarat due to the lockdown.

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found the claim to be false.
We put the picture through Reverse Image Search and found a link to an article dated December 2019, featuring the same image.
According to the article, this picture is from Malaysia. These people were waiting at the immigration office, courtesy of the Back For Good (B4G) programme stared on August 5, 2019.

As per an article in The Star, the B4G programme implemented in Peninsular Malaysia until Dec 31 is aimed at giving illegal immigrants who have committed offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 the chance to return to their countries of origin.
The above information proves that the picture is old and is NOT from India and related to COVID-19
