Fact Check: Don’t fall for this FAKE news of 400 COVID-19 patients going missing in UP

A news article is being shared on Facebook claiming that 400 people are missing from Gautam Budh Nagar in Uttar Pradesh after they tested positive for COVID-19.

The article was published by Akhand India on July 27, 2020. The published news article states police is searching for missing patients.

Another article, published by Amar Ujala, dated July 27, 2020, claims that about 800 coronavirus patients went missing due to negligence of the health department.
We found the post on Twitter as well.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact checked the above post and found it to be FAKE.
When we checked the picture featured in the news article, we noticed that the PCR van just behind the police personnel is of Delhi Police and not of Uttar Pradesh Police. 
Further, NewsMobile contacted Dr Deepak Ohri, Chief Medical Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar, who confirmed that the reports of missing COVID-19 positive patients are false. 
“The claims of missing coronavirus patients are fake. Some journalists usually don’t verify the news and publish it in their news articles that can mislead the masses,” he told NewsMobile.
