Fact Check: Does UPSC differentiate between aspirants based on religion? Here's the truth

0 301

A snapshot of a report by SudarshanTV is doing rounds all over social media claiming that the eligibility criteria for applying in UPSC exam differ for Hindus and Muslims.
The Facebook post read, “●1947 में हिंदुस्तान के बँटवारा होने के बावजूद ऐसा भेदभाव क्यों?●
*UPSC में हिंदू के लिए 6 attempt और अरबी-मुगलों के लिए 9 Attempt.*
(Why is there discrimination between Hindus and Muslims despite the partition of 1947 in India? 6 attempts for Hindus in UPSC and 9 Attempt for Arabic-Mughals. Maximum 32 years for Hindus in UPSC and 35 years for Arabic-Mughals. 👉 Don’t you think that the hatred amongst religions is done by the laws of Government itself?)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be misleading.
We Google Searched the eligibility criteria for UPSC Examination. On digging further, we found a PDF File on the main site of UPSC in which we searched for ‘Age Limit’ and ‘Number of Attempts’ in UPSC Exam. The important points have been highlighted in the images below. However, we did not find any mention regarding religion.

With the help of a keyword search, we found related information on Byjus, an educational application. However, we did not find any information regarding relaxation given on the basis of religion.

Also, on Jagran Josh, there was no information about relaxation given to Muslims in UPSC Exam.
Further, we also found the live video of Sudarshan TV on YouTube which was anchored by Suresh Chavhanke, claiming that non-Muslims are not privileged as Muslims get OBC quota.

The full episode is given below.

We also found the tweet of Suresh Chavhanke of Sudarshan News claiming that Non-Muslim OBC’s are suffering due to Muslims getting OBC quota.

Hence, based on our fact check, we can conclude that as per UPSC rules, there is no discrimination made to aspirants on the basis of religion and a deliberate attempt is being made through multiple platforms to spread wrong information. Don’t fall for misleading information.
