NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be misleading.
When we look at the picture carefully, we noticed that Rahul Gandhi and other members along with him were dressed up in winter clothes, wearing mufflers and shawls which means the picture was clicked in winters. Also, in the midsts of Coronavirus pandemic, it is compulsory for everyone to wear masks, but when we look at the picture we found that no one is wearing masks.
On putting the picture through Google Reverse Image Search, we found many similar pictures on of the official website of Getty Images.
On scanning through the pictures, we found the picture in question. As per the description, the picture was taken on December 23, 2019, in New Delhi during Congress’ Satyagraha For Unity At Rajghat Against CAA.
The picture description read: “Congress Satyagraha For Unity At Rajghat Against CAA | NEW DELHI, INDIA – DECEMBER 23: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during a Satyagraha Andolan at Rajghat on December 23, 2019, in New Delhi, India. Top Congress leaders including party chief Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former party chief Rahul Gandhi and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra participated in the ‘Satyagraha’ at Rajghat to “show solidarity” with students agitating against the amended Citizenship Act and all those “suffering due to bad policies of the government”. In conclusion, the picture in question is old as it was taken on December 23, 2019, at Rajghat during Congress’ protest against CAA. Hence, it has no connection with the Independence Day as claimed in the above posts.
