Legendary Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona died on November 25 at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack.
Soon, a video of a huge procession started making rounds on social media claiming to be from his funeral procession.
“November 27 | 2020 :#DiegoMaradona’s funeral procession today Mesmerizing.Thousands of fans say their last goodbyes to Diego Maradona. May his soul rest in eternal peace in the lap of Almighty, ” the post claimed.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.
We extracted keyframes from the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to a similar video uploaded on YouTube in June 2020.
“MANIFESTATION by the Argentine people against Fernández and Cristina Kirchner (06/14/2020)” the title of the video read.
In the same search result, we also found a tweet from October 2019, by Mauricio Macri, former President of Argentina.
“Massive # 19o. #Yes you can, ” the Google translation of the tweet read.
To confirm if the video and the picture are of the same event, we compared them as below.
After confirming that the image is from the same event, we ran a keyword search and found a similar video by AFP dated October 20, 2019, showing the same event.
“Macri celebrates a massive act eight days before the elections | AFP, ” the Google translation of the video read.
A similar picture was also published in a report by Reuters which stated that the picture is of supporters of Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri attending the ‘Million March’ rally as part of Macri’s re-election campaign in Buenos Aires on October 19, 2019.
This proves that the video in circulation is OLD.
However, we did find various videos, uploaded by media organisations that show his fans mourning for the legend.
Hence, this proves, that the post in circulation is misleading.
