Fact Check: Lockdown violators made to clean lake? Here's the truth behind this picture

A picture of some people cleaning what looks like a farm field is being circulated on social media with a claim that Karnataka police is punishing the lockdown violators by making them clean public places.
The caption of the picture read: “Karnataka Police is making Lockdown Violators to clean public places as punishment & It’s working. This step is very useful for both the society and it’s people. This will make society a bit more clean.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found that the picture is old.
On putting the image through Reverse Image Search, we found an article on Bangalore Mirror published on July 3, 2017, featuring the same image. The article mentions that around 20 techies had voluntarily come to clean Hulimavu Lake in Bengaluru.

On digging further, we found that the police in Kalaburgi is making the violators clean up public spaces. But clearly the photo used in the post is old and not related to Coronavirus.


In conclusion, the above information proves that the viral picture has no relation to the lockdown imposed due to the Coronavirus outbreak.
