Fact Check: Did former CJI Ranjan Gogoi defend Baba Ramdev over Coronil? Here's the truth

A screenshot of a tweet attributed to the former Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, is being shared on social media.
In the tweet, he is defending Baba Ramdev and Patanjali’s new anti-COVID-19 drug, Coronil.

“देश में हर शहर में कोरोना का एलोपैथी ट्रीटमेंट लेते हुए लोग मर रहे हैं तो क्या सभी डॉक्टर्स को जेल भेज दे । कोरोना पर पूरा विश्व जिन दवाओं का प्रयोग कर रहा है क्या कोई भी कोरोना की दवाई है ? मेरा यह सवाल है उन मूर्ख लोगों से जो रामदेव बाबा को गलत बता रहे है” the tweet read.
(Translation: People across India are dying even after getting allopathic treatment, so should we send the doctors to jail? Are any medicines used to treat coronavirus actually a medicine for COVID-19? I put up this question to the people who are saying that Ramdev baba is wrong.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above post and found it to be misleading.
We searched for media reports on the same but did not find anything credible.
Then we checked the twitter handle from which the tweet was made (@SGBJP) and found that that the tweet was posted on June 25, 2020.


The bio of this Twitter handle clearly stated that the account is a parody account.

 
It should also be noted that Ranjan Gogoi doesn’t have any official Twitter account.
Hence, based on the above information, we can conclude that the post in question is misleading.
