Fact Check: Did Cong Supporters Vandalise Vegetable Shops During Bharat Bandh? Here’s The Truth

The ‘Bharat Bandh’ called by farmers’ organizations to press for annulment of the newly promulgated farm laws on December 8, 2020, was supported by various opposition parties.
In the backdrop of the same, a picture of a road, with vegetables scattered all over, is being shared on social media with a claim that this was done by ‘Congress hooligans’.
“ये है किसानों के हितैषी ये है इनका भारत बंद सोनिया सेना व वामपंथियों का भारत बंद है,देख लो। सब्जी मंडी में जबरदस्ती दुकाने बंद करवाने के लिए सोनिया के गुंडों ने गरीब ठेले वालो के पूरे दिन की कमाई का नुकसान कर दिया सभी सब्जियां जमीन पर फेंक दी,”the post read in Hindi.
(Translation: These are farmers well-wishers, this is their India closed. Sonia army and leftists are closed in India, see. Sonia’s goons damaged the whole day’s earnings of poor cart people and forcefully close the shops in the vegetable market and threw all the vegetables on the ground.)

NewsMobile fact checked the post and found the claim to be misleading.
On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we found that the same picture was shared by multiple social media users in May 2020. Here’s the link to the Facebook post.
According to the above post, the pictures are from Pioneer Market in Barasat, West Bengal.

The same post was also shared on Twitter in May 2020.


In the picture, we also noticed that texts on some billboards were written in Bengali language and also the number plate on the vehicle had ‘WB’, which is used for vehicles in the state of West Bengal.

The above information proves that the picture in circulation is OLD. However, NewsMobile could not independently verify the origin and location of the pictures.
