A video has surfaced on the internet where a bare-chested old man can be seen in a crowd. The crowd can be seen holding black flags with images of famous Tamil social reformer EV Ramasamy, popularly known as Periyar.
The claim attached to the video is that the crowd cut off the holy thread(janehu) of the old man and forced him to dance.

FACT CHECK

When we did a fact check, we found that the claim is FAKE.
On putting the keyframe of the video through Reverse Image Search, we found a video on Youtube published on June 24, 2019.
The title of the video read: “Poonam companion | An old man worshipping the Periyar statue”

It is clear from the video that the old man is not humiliated or heckled by the crowd and that he’s dancing by choice.
Also, the old man’s Janehu (holy thread) can be seen on his chest.
Hence, it proves that the claim made is false.
